Education Minister Adamu Adamu outlined the federal government’s efforts to end the long-running strike by the University Teachers’ Union (ASUU). Speaking early in the evening on her Channels TV show, Adamu revealed that the government is now reviewing teachers’ salaries to reflect the current inflation trend.
On the issue of arrears in salaries owed by the government to teachers, the education minister said they have started paying them.ASUU is lobbying about which platform the government is using to pay teachers. It is still awaiting final approval from UTAS, Adamu Adamu told IPPIS.
However, Adam Adam said he has not yet accepted the recent salary increase as the ASUU is still in negotiations.The minister, who revealed that he talks to the ASUU almost daily, said that the teachers should go on strike as soon as possible. He said he wanted it to end.
