Seven people were killed and five others were injured after two vehicles collided on the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway on Thursday, according to the Kogi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

Stephen Dawulung, the FRSC’s Kogi Sector Commander, confirmed the event to newsmen in Lokoja on Friday.

According to the FRSC commander, the incident occurred on Thursday at Akpanya, near Koton Karfe, on the Abuja-Lokoja Road, when a Toyota Hiace bus collided head-on with a DAF Articulated Vehicle.

Seven people perished instantaneously and five others were injured when the two vehicles collided.

Our officers, who arrived on the site shortly after being warned, were able to aid in the evacuation of the victims, particularly the injured, for medical treatment.

“The injured have already been brought to Koton Karfe Hospital, where medical staff are treating them while the bodies are being put at the mortuary,” he said.

According to Dawulung, the collision was caused by a speed and route violation by one of the involved vehicles.

To avoid road crashes, the FRSC sector commander recommended everyone, particularly drivers, to avoid nighttime travel and speeding while remaining cautious enough to retain their lanes.
